Hurtigruten environmental commitment

Coastal Encounters, Ecologically Aware
Our voyages enjoy the skies, seas and landscapes along coastlines worldwide, and we believe that these unique environments contribute greatly to the appeal for these journeys. Throughout our operation, in every corner of the world, our key objective is to ensure that all our trips are carried out in the most environmentally responsible way.

Local Heritage and Pristine Environments

The traditional Hurtigruten route along the coast of Norway is on board daily working ships which operate year-round. As such your voyage supports an historic local transport system, which is very much part of Norway's national heritage. Unlike commercial cruises, by voyaging on the Hurtigruten fleet here you are joining a scheduled service, ensuring that your trip has a minimal additional impact upon fuel-consumption and helps maintain the way of life along the coastline. Hurtigruten Explorer voyages are accompanied by knowledgeable specialists, with expertise and enthusiasm for the wildlife and environments we encounter. On board we utilise the ship's equipment to its full potential, meet local experts who add to our overall experience, and use smaller landing craft to minimise the impact upon the coastline.

Supporting Marine Conservation

For every passenger who books a tour with Hurtigruten, we will make a monetary contribution towards the UK's only charity dedicated to the protection of the marine environment, its shores and all the wonderful wildlife which depends on them. Our support for the Marine Conservation Society (www.mcsuk.org) helps their work to protect endangered marine species and habitats, campaigns for pollution-free seas and litter-free coastlines, and projects to tackle the over-exploitation of marine resources. Together we hope to make a real difference to our seas - both now and for future generations.

Carbon Balance Your Flights

One of the major environmental drawbacks of international travel is the greenhouse gas released into the atmosphere from air travel. Emissions from flights are widely recognised as being a contributing factor to increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which is a key cause of climate change. We have begun a partnership with Climate Care (www.climatecare.org) which allows us to offer you the opportunity to carbon balance your flights. For all of the itineries illustrated here, we would like to invite you to contribute a small amount of £5 per passenger, which will be used by Climate Care on projects designed to neutralise the emissions generated by your air travel. If you want us to neutralise your flights simply complete the Climate Care section of the booking form. As part of our commitment to this cause, all staff business flights are also carbon neutralised.
